Brasilia (IANS). Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will face an investigation into the riots in the country. Brazil’s Supreme Court has agreed to include Bolsonaro in an investigation into the January 8 riots by thousands of his hardline supporters in the capital, Brasilia. This is the first time that Bolsonaro’s name has been included among those potentially responsible for the attack on the Supreme Court, Parliament and the Presidential Palace.

Hundreds of people have been arrested so far
Meanwhile, a number of businessmen and officials are being investigated, including Anderson Torres, Brasilia’s former security chief who fled to the US before the riots. So far more than 1,200 people have been formally arrested and are being charged in connection with the riots. Apart from this, arrest warrants have also been issued for several top officials. They have been accused of being “responsible for acts and omissions” that led to the violence.
