World Economic Forum Meeting at Davos: The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum ie World Economic Forum (WEF) started late on Monday night (Indian time) in Davos, Switzerland. Thousands of people including about hundred participants from India have participated in this meeting. This meeting will last for a week. During this, ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’ will be discussed.
Actually, this time the theme of the meeting has been kept ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’. Issues like Ukraine crisis, global inflation, climate change can be discussed in this meeting. Many big leaders and industrialists from India will participate in this.
Beginning with the Crystal Awards Ceremony
The late night meeting started with the crystal award ceremony. This award is given to prominent artists for their achievements, who work to connect all the leaders of the society and are role models for the people. In this sequence, Maya Lin, American theater artist Renee Fleming, actors Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre Elba were awarded this award. After this ‘I See You’ concert was organized.
What is World Economic Forum?
WEF is an international non-profit organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. An organization focused on bringing the public and private sectors together to address global political, social and economic issues. It was founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, a Swiss-German economist and professor, to promote global cooperation on pressing problems. The first meeting of WEF was held in Davos more than five decades ago, since then its meeting is held in Davos only. However, after the 9/11 attack, its meeting was held in New York in the year 2002 for the purpose of showing solidarity.
What Really Happens in Davos?
Davos typically attracts global business executives and policy makers. Apart from the US President, top leaders of the European Union and the United Nations, business leaders and entrepreneurs, educationists, non-governmental organizations, big leaders and industrialists of other countries of the world also participate. There are many meetings and discussions on different issues. Global problems are also discussed in this. Like in 2019 there was a special discussion on climate change.
Davos 2023: What’s on the agenda this year?
This year’s annual meeting in Davos will run from January 16-20. This time the theme or agenda has been kept ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’. It has 5 sub-themes, which include energy and food crisis, inflation, technology for innovation, social vulnerability and geopolitical risk. This time UN chief Antonio Guterres and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz are among some of the prominent figures who will hold discussions with around 400 government ministers and policy makers, 600 CEOs and UK actor Idris Elba, among others.
These people will be included from India
Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnav, Mansukh Mandaviya, Smriti Irani and RK Singh will attend this meeting from India. Apart from this, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in a program Eknath Shinde Including many officers and businessmen from India can also participate. First CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath And Karnataka’s CM BS Bommai was also named, but the chances of both of them coming are very less.
