Pakistan: Membership of 271 MPs has been suspended in the neighboring country of Pakistan. These are the MPs who have not submitted the details of their assets and liabilities. The Election Commission of Pakistan has taken action against such MPs. Suspended members will not be able to participate in parliamentary work.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, MPs have to submit details of their assets and liabilities by 31 December every year. MPs who were unable to do so were asked by the Election Commission of Pakistan to submit their financial statements by June 30, 2022, and by January 16, 2023. Action will be taken against those who do not do so. In a statement issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, it has been told that among those who have taken action, there are 136 members of the National Assembly, 21 senators and 114 provincial assembly members.
Many members did not give details even last year
Let us tell you that 35 members of the National Assembly (MNA) and three members of the senators did not give details of their assets to the Election Commission of Pakistan till the deadline of January 16 last year. The number is much higher this year due to the resignation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPs from the National Assembly, Dawn newspaper reported.
According to the Commission, no member of the Legislative Assembly of Punjab province is included in the list of suspended MPs and MLAs. The Commission informed that the Provincial Assembly has already been dissolved. Apart from National Assembly members and senators, the commission has suspended 48 members from Sindh, 54 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 12 from Balochistan.
The suspended members include senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and cabinet members Ahsan Iqbal and Khawaja Asif. Along with this, the membership of Public Accounts Committee Chairman Noor Alam Khan has also been suspended.
