According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, run by the Egyptian government, the inflation rate in the country increased from 6.2 percent to 19.2 percent in November 2022 as compared to November 2021. Mohammed Abdo, a 20-year-old resident of Egypt’s Al-Qubud district, told that the number of mosques in the country has increased so much that he hears the sound of azaan from five different mosques from the balcony of his house. According to the American website, Abdo said that instead of spending money on mosques, the government should spend on basic things.

Egypt’s Religious Ministry Minister Mohammad Mukhtar Goma had said during an interview in the year 2020 that there are 1 lakh 40 thousand mosques in the country. Out of these one lakh big mosques are included. Despite this, many mosques are crowded only on Fridays and in the month of Ramzan. According to a report by the Egyptian Ministry of Religion, 9600 mosques were repaired during the tenure of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, in which $404 million has been spent. According to the US magazine CO World, the average salary in Egypt is $219 per month, the lowest among Arab countries.
