Your feet take a pounding every day. Help them go the distance by finding and treating problems from corns and calluses to athlete’s foot and hammertoes.Treat your feet well, and they’ll treat you well. The foot is an evolutionary marvel that really can cope with hundreds of tons of force — your weight in motion — every day. All the parts that make up the foot — toes, heel, ball — act together to get you from one place to another.
The stress of carrying you around puts your feet at a high risk of injury, higher than any other body part. Moreover, most of the common foot disorders—like hammertoes, blisters, bunions, corns and calluses, claw and hammer toes, ingrown toenails, toenail fungus, and a generally fungal infection called athlete’s foot—can result from neglect, poor-fitting shoes, and the normal wear and tear.
ATHLETE’S FOOT
This fungal infection, preferring warm, dark and damp climates, most commonly results in disease of the interdigital areas and soles. It can cause inflammation of the skin and a white, scaly rash with a red based. The other symptoms of such an infection are itching, burning, peeling, and sometimes a slight odour.
You can help prevent athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) by the following measures: keeping your feet and toes clean and dry, changing your shoes and socks frequently, and never walking shoeless in public locker rooms and showers. You can treat most cases of athlete’s foot at home using over-the-counter antifungal creams or sprays. Sprays or powders can also be dusted in shoes to kill any remaining fungus in the shoes.
HAMMERTOE
If your second, third, or fourth toe is crossed, bent in the middle of the toe joint, or just pointed at an odd angle, you could have what’s called a hammertoe. Hammertoes are caused by shoes that fit poorly. For this, custom Orthopedic Shoes are designed
If your toe is still flexible, your doctor may recommend that you wear shoes that fit more comfortably, in addition, wearing good quality corrective orthotics can serve to reposition your toes. Brampton Orthotic and Foot Supplies address this problem.
BLISTERS
Fortunately, most blisters are caused by friction between the skin on the foot and the inside of your shoes as You can avoid having blisters — tender ups of increased skin pouches if filled with clear fluid — at your feet by wearing comfortable shoes and socks of the right size. In case blisters form, it’s best to let them rupture naturally as opposed to bursting them by yourself, even when they hurt and cause discomfort when walking. If you get a blister, just put a band-aid over it and let it pop on it’s own. If it pops, then you can use a topical antibiotic cream, you can cover it with a bandage, this aids in healing and it will help prevent infection, but you want to keep it covered to reduce the friction that caused it and keep it from coming back.
