Former President Donald Trump fat-shamed his 2024 GOP rival, Chris Christie, posting a picture of him Monday, in which the former New Jersey governor is sporting unflattering shorts.
Christie is coming off of a dynamic debate performance, though he remains in far-off fifth place nationally. In New Hampshire, where he’s focused most of his energies, he’s currently in third.
Still, his warnings about Trump being a ‘danger to this country’ – as Christie said from the stump in the Granite State Friday – must have irritated the ex-president, who tore into him on Instagram and Truth Social.
‘Not fit for office, mentally or physically,’ Trump said in the caption of the photo.
The picture shows Christie standing in an awkward position and sporting khaki belted shorts with a white polo short tucked into them.
Former President Donald Trump fat-shamed his rival, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, in social media posts on Monday, suggesting Christie couldn’t handle the presidency ‘mentally or physically’ and suggesting he suffers from ‘TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME’
Christie is coming off a strong debate performance, but Trump – pictured outside of Trump Tower on Monday – is the far-off frontrunner. The former New Jersey governor is in fifth place nationally and third place in New Hampshire, where he’s focusing the most energy
‘We need strong people not suffering from a harsh terminal disease, TDS, TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME!!!’ Trump also offered.
Additionally, Trump highlighted two videos on X that showed right-wing conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, a prominent supporter of the ex-president, trolling Christie at an event and making fun of his weight.
In one video, posted by Loomer last month, she yells at Christie that he’s never going to be president.
‘You might have a heart attack from eating too much but you’ll never be president,’ Loomer yelled.
In another video, Loomer is heard telling Christie, ‘You don’t need to run for President fata**, you need to get on a treadmill.’
‘The proudest moments of my career is to be opposed by someone like you,’ Christie told Loomer at the time.
Christie has struggled with his weight through adulthood and quietly got gastric-banding obesity surgery istanbul in February 2013.
Trump also posted the unflattering picture of Christie on Instagram Monday. Christie is the most vehement anti-Trump candidate who remains viable in the race, though he’s at a distant fifth place nationally
Christie is by far the most vehement anti-Trump candidate who remains viable in the race.
During Wednesday night’s debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the former New Jersey governor called out Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Amb. Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy for not taking on Trump.
‘I look at my watch now, we’re 17 minutes into this debate and except for your little speech in the beginning we’ve had these three acting as if the race is between the four of us,’ Christie observed.
He blasted them for treating the ‘fifth guy’ like the Harry Potter character Voldemort.
‘He who shall not be named,’ Christie said. ‘They don’t want to talk about it.’
Christie then called Trump ‘unfit’ – the same dig Trump took at him Monday, pointing out the ex-governor’s girth.
Trump, himself, is no stranger to controversies about his weight.
In August, when Trump was booked in Fulton County Jail over charges related to his plot to overturn the 2020 election, the ex-president said he weighed 215 pounds and was six-foot-three, dimensions usually reserved for a professional athlete.
Trump previously weighed 239 pounds in 2018 and 244 pounds in 2020.
Even at the 239-pound mark, Trump attracted skeptics, dubbed ‘girthers,’ who believed that then White House Dr. Ronny Jackson used that weight and said Trump was six-foot-three because he’d be just below what’s considered clinically obese.
