The delays are the result of a number of factors.

The major reason for the slow election results is the razor-thin margin among candidates and Georgia.

Recalculation may also cause result delays. Twenty-two states have provision for automatic recounts.

In Georgia, there is a tough race between Democratic Senator Rafael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker, candidates must get at least 50 percent of the vote to win.

The most delayed has been in Arizona because a large number of people there choose to vote by mail.

Other delays are due to the decentralised way in which elections are set up in the US.

Thousands of ballots are yet to be counted, including about 400,000 in Maricopa country and about 159,000 in Pima County.

Where officials said a final count is not expected before November 14 or 15.

Votes are still being counted in Nevada, with thousands of ballots remaining in Clark County, Las Vegas.
